ABOUT US

Universiti Malaya Actuarial and Financial Mathematics Society

Universiti Malaya Actuarial and Financial Mathematics Society (UMACT) was founded in 2009 and formed by a group of students who were pursuing Bachelor of Science (Actuarial and Financial Mathematics at Universiti Malaya. It serves as a platform for the actuarial students to interact with one another, and to connect the students and the working professionals in the industry.

 

Our Vision is to be a well-known society which inspires actuarial talents in Malaysia. Our Mission is to prepare UMACT members going into the workforce by developing their professional skills. 

Institute of Mathematical Sciences

The Institute of Mathematical Sciences (ISM), formed in 1998, started off as a Department of Mathematics in 1959 and was one of the pioneering departments in the Faculty of Science, University of Malaya. It is also an institute of study in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences as well as the Faculty of Education, and services the Faculty of Engineering. The Institute is today one of the largest mathematical institutes in Malaysia. ISM offers undergraduate programmes which are Bachelor of Science in Mathematics, Bachelor of Science in Applied Mathematics, Bachelor of Science in Statistics and Bachelor of Actuarial Science.

Universiti Malaya

Universiti Malaya (UM), Malaysia's oldest university, is a public research university located in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It was founded on 28 September 1905 in Singapore as the King Edward VII College of Medicine and on 8th October 1949, it became the University of Malaya with the merger of the King Edward VII College of Medicine and Raffles College (founded in 1928).

 

Currently, His Royal Highness The Sultan of Perak Darul Ridzuan, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah is the Chancellor of UM. YBhg. Dato’ Prof. Ir. Dr. Mohd Hamdi Abd Shukor was appointed as the 13th Vice-Chancellor of UM on 1 November 2020. There are a total of 23,763 local students and 4,201 international students as of August 2021.
